Students looking to spend one year in Japan to make serious linguistic progress can really benefit from this dedicated long term programme. Offering 40 weeks of tuition over a 50/51 week period from April and October each year, the course enables in-depth study. There are several holiday periods built in, perfect for travelling around Japan or returning home to see family and friends. The programme is still very communication skills orientated, in-line with the other course options shown below.

Student Visa applications are straightforward but take time and eligibility depends purely on Japanese Immigration rulings. Successful applicants can then choose to extend their stay in Fukuoka for a further 6 months of study – once in Japan.
Working Visa students may only study for a one year period, (and must meet very specific age and nationality criteria – see PDF) and no extensions are possible.

In line with the One Year and Languages for Life programmes, this Japanese language course is purely communication orientated, ideal for those who wish to study key grammar and conversation skills of the language.   Classes are made up of 2 lessons of grammar and 2 lessons of conversation per day, with the main focus on real-life skills, across all language levels.

In reality the school anticipate 2 to 5 students per class and rising 6 to 8 students per class in July/August. If a student is the only person at his/her Japanese ability level, the Japanese school will provide reduced private classes for them.

The Six Month Courses use interesting and modern materials and activities to focus on improving your Japanese speaking ability in a way that gives you the flexibility to adapt to new situations, until one day you won’t even need a teacher any more!

Working Visa students can study for six months and then travel. There are no holiday breaks in this programme.  Students must meet very specific age and nationality criteria – see PDF.
Visa Waiver students will need to discuss extending the standard 90 days visa waiver arrangement. Eligibility to do so will depend on your nationality.

These longer term courses are offered on start dates throughout the year, across all language levels.
Committing to several months tuition ensures better progress and retention of knowledge long term. Small-group classes are given both in and outside of the classroom – you will learn essential communication techniques in structured lessons with a native speaking teacher. Learn common sentence patterns and vocabulary and gain in confidence when using and improving your skills in real life situations.

JLPT Exam Preparation

For many students formally proving competency in the Japanese language is very important and proof of language proficiency essential, and this is precisely what the JLPT exams offer.

Your tutor in Fukuoka or Tokyo will let you know which JLPT level you can sit.

Level 5 = Basic ability to
Level 1 = Advanced ability

Start Dates: Standard Course dates in Fukuoka or Tokyo (generally leading up to the JLPT exam date in December)

Every week you will be given you homework during the private tuition exam preparation lessons so your tutor will be able to assess your weak points and help you address them.
