Learn French in Cannes: Social Life
Many students make their own plans to explore Cannes and the Cote d’Azur. Just off shore from Cannes are the Iles de Lérins, the two islands are covered in pine and eucalyptus one is home to Fort Royal, one time prison of the Man in the Iron Mask and the other to a Monastery from the 11 th century. Discover the impressive cliffs (and depths) of the Grand Canyon du Verdon and sample the perfumeries of Grasse. In addition Nice, Monte Carlo, Saint Tropez and Antibes are within easy reach for weekend day trips.
There are many sporting opportunities in the area, from water sports; sailing, wind-surfing, scuba-diving or water-skiing to tennis, horse-riding, golf, squash, dancing or the ever popular Provençal game of “la petanque”. The college itself offers volleyball and basketball, table tennis, half-court tennis and has an in-house gym. In addition you can participate in the following activities with other college students, aerobic course on campus, mountain bike excursions, canyon-ing, rafting, scuba diving, ski-ing or snow boarding @Isola 2000, skiing with own kit, sailing.
There are college trips arranged once or twice a week on a half-day or once a week on a full-day basis (at additional cost). Half-day trips are offered to a variety of local places of interest including Musee Picasso (Antibes) , Fondation Maeght (St Paul de Vence), Musee d’Art Modern (Nice) and Musee Matisse (Cagnes Sur Mer). Full-Day Excursion destinations include St Tropez by boat or bus, Gorges du Verdon, San Remo – Dolce Aqua, Italy and Monaco & Eze-Village. The college staff can also assist with your individual trips to any French or European cities of interest.
Do not forget to bring a couple of passport photos of yourself so that you can arrange a college student card. If you live on campus you will have to pay a key deposit (returned at the end of your course).
For those who want to explore Cannes’ night life we recommend the bars and restaurants around the port, great for promenading, there are plenty of pubs and clubs to try, concerts of all types and students enjoy going bowling and Karting.
