Most teenagers are beginners or have a low Japanese language level, and can be placed together in a group class, but this is not always possible, and in some instances students will be placed in an adult group class, to ensure they are learning Japanese at the correct level.  There are generally around 10 teenagers present each week, June to August.

Students will live in host accommodation in Fukuoka, Tokyo or Kyoto, but also have the option of staying in a supervised residence in Fukuoka.  Accommodation is specifically chosen for ease of access to the school by public transport (but commuting by public transport will be necessary) and good student supervision.  Please note there are no dedicated teenage monitors watching the students, so any teenager wishing to join this programme will need to be fairly independent.

Japanese Course Tuition

The Japanese language course is purely communication orientated, ideal for those who wish to study key grammar and conversation skills of the language, but don’t require in-depth study.   Classes are made up of 2 lessons of grammar and 2 lessons of conversation per day, with the main focus on real-life skills.  Learn common sentence patterns and vocabulary with your teacher and use them in practical situations both in and out of the classroom.

We anticipate 3 to 6 students per class, rising to 8 students in some classes in July/August.
If a student is the only person at his/her Japanese ability level, the Japanese school will provide reduced private classes for them.

The Japanese Group Course uses interesting and modern materials and activities to focus on improving your Japanese speaking ability in a way that gives you the flexibility to adapt to new situations, until one day you won’t even need a teacher any more!

Small-group classes are given both inside and outside of the classroom – you will learn essential communication techniques in structured lessons with the teacher, then practice them in real-world situations, such as:
Asking at the train station
Calling a movie theatre to ask for showtimes
Ordering delivery sushi
Calling a restaurant to make reservations
Giving a questionnaire to people in the park
Asking for directions at the train station
Buying electronics

Unaccompanied Minor Services (by airlines)
For most flights to Fukuoka, many airlines offer an Unaccompanied Minor service, a paid service where a staff member will take the student between flights if they have transfers, and make sure the student is handed over to the school representative at Fukuoka Airport. Generally this service is only required for students under 15 yrs of age. Please check with your airline for more details!

Weekly reports
For parents who require it, the school will provide weekly updates on student progress, including information on academic achievement, interactions with the host family, activities that week, and staff observations.

A welcoming atmosphere in the school
The reception and support staff, the teachers and all the other students get to know each other very quickly in these small school environments, so teenagers are well supervised during their time in school, and will always have someone to turn to if they have a query, feel homesick or have any other concerns.

Accommodation
Offered with designated residencies The school will only allow students under 18 yrs to stay in one of the designated residencies which offer special services for under-18 s.
