I wanted to pick up my somewhat rusty French.  A’level skills more years ago than I care to remember coupled with regular holidays in France didn’t quite add up to the skill level I once had.  So this year I decided to do something about it – a New Year’s Resolution if you will.

I decided to go for an Over 50’s French course in Nice, to avoid studying with younger students, though having seen the Standard Classes at work at the school, I wouldn’t rule out attending one another time – they weren’t all 17 yr old high school students (which had been my original concern).

In linguistic terms the course more than meet my needs and my expectations.  The lessons worked brilliantly for me.  Teacher interaction was excellent and paced so that it met individual language level.   Class conversation was fun, lessons were informal and interesting.  The activities with the Over 50’s were what I had hoped for although more than I expected, with an activity every day, with only the mid Sunday completely free.  The cultural excursions and activities could not have been better, Villefranche-sur-Mer was well worth a visit, they were amazingly well organised.  Everything was very smoothly arranged.

Nice was a very good French course destination. Eating out with the other “Club Cinquante” students from Switzerland, Germany and Denmark (really lovely people all of them).  We found some great places in the local area.  I felt very safe in my hosts area of Nice as well.  The younger students spent a lot of time on the beach or going to the cinema, but us oldies loved lazing around “vielle Nice”, the Flower market and the harbour.

I felt CESA offered me excellent assistance, efficient email and phone information and good advice.  I have already recommended the French language course in Nice, and I would go again.  Maybe it’s a long time since I have been in a classroom, but I loved every minute of it – I found the learning and interaction with the Over 50s and the younger students in the other classes unforgettable and thought the teachers taught French with a real sense of humour.  It was fun and my French skills definitely improved! What more could I ask!
