Group lessons follow the Standard Course format

Open to students of all language levels, these courses concentrate on developing general language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) and are always held in Italian.

These short term Italian courses are aimed at those who need to build on current skills or who want to learn Italian in Milan, from scratch on an Italian immersion course, with their peers.

Older adults are placed in classes together wherever viable, however if necessary a student/s is placed in a class with a mixed aged group to ensure the language tuition is appropriate for their skill level.

Activities

1st week: afternoon programme

Orientation tour of the city; Guided tour to the ‘Museo della Scala’ and Brera district; Italian cooking class; Participation at a Classical Concert or Opera; Visit to the ‘Foundation Giuseppe Verdi’

2nd week: afternoon programme

Weekend excursion to Como or Verona, Visit to Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’ and ‘Santa Maria delle Grazie’ church or to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology; walking through the district of ‘Navigli’ (Art studios and Antique shops); visit to the ‘Museo del Novecento’; shopping in Monte Napoleone (fashion and Pret a Porter shops); typical Milanese ‘Aperitivo’

Practical Information

– Where a language group of the correct level cannot be made up of just students on the Over 50 course, students are incorporated into the open classes of the Standard Course, offered to all language levels
– Accommodation is carefully chosen and is generally within 20-50 minutes of the school by foot or public transport
– All activities are guided and commentary is provided in Italian

First Day

Arrival at school for everyone (whatever their language level): 08.30 hrs
Beginners start their class at 09.00.  Non-beginners will take a Language Level test to determine their class placement.
The class lists and timetables will be made available on the message board and non-beginners will start classes either in the morning or afternoon according to the schedule of the week.

Accommodation

You are welcome to choose from a range of accommodation choices:

  • Italian hosts, single room, half-board (shared rooms for couples)
  • Shared apartment are offered but are not recommended for mature students
  • Hotels or Studios for sole occupancy
  • or feel free to make your own arrangements

Please note it is not possible to offer a private bathroom with host accommodation in Milan.  If this is important to you, please discuss this with the CESA staff.

Travel & Transfer

Arrive: Sunday PM
Depart: Saturday AM

We recommend students fly to Milan’s Malpensa airport and then catch the train (Malpensa Express) and then catch the subway into the centre of town. Alternatively, catch the shuttle from Malpensa airport to statione Centrale and then catch the subway into town. Students are welcome to book a transfer service at additional cost from Milan’s Malpensa airport to their accommodation.
