PDF Download 2020Student Reviews

If you’re looking for an immersion French course, staying with local French hosts. It’s perfect for older teenagers looking to work on their French, in a teenage only study environment (by the sea) with other language students from across Europe. Students really enjoy living on the Atlantic coast, in Biarritz.

Tuesday to Friday classes are held 09.00 hrs to 12.30 hrs (with a 20 minutes break) So there are 15 hours (or 20 lessons x 45 minutes) in total per week.

The programme covers all the different elements of the French language. Students are taught a wide range of language learning tools; covering speaking, reading, writing and listening skills according to their current French language level. The main focus of the course is always oral communication and the teachers are all university educated, native speakers. Students are always encouraged to participate actively in class and to put their new found French skills into practice.

Biarritz Teens Volleyball

Social Programme

The school staff arrange a variety of additional activities after the official Activity or Surfing programme each week, depending on the time available, including; football matches,

beach volley contests, quizzes, beach volleyball, board games, photo contests and treasure hunts. It’s a great way to get to know each other and of course to practise your French outside of the formal class sessions!

On Wednesday afternoon (half-day) and Saturday (full-day) excursions are offered as an inclusive part of the programme, to Bayonne, St Jean de Luz, St Jean Pied de Port, Espelette and La Rhune. Students are accompanied by school staff, to encourage a little more French conversation wherever possible…

One evening a week  (generally Friday night) the school arranges an activity to bring the students together so they can relax and chat. Popular events include a bowling night, a trip to the cinema or a night spent on the beach. Normally timetabled 8.30 to 11.00 pm.

Students are expected to stay at home with their hosts, so they can practise their French. Students aged 15 yrs+ can go out until 11pm during the week, or 1am on Friday/Saturday night if they have parental permission to go out in the evening (the late curfew extension also applies to nights before a public holiday in France, when there are no lessons the following day).

Biarritz: Students in school

Language School

The Biarritz French college has an excellent academic record and operates as a language college each summer, catering for students aged 14 yrs+.

In June the Teenage classes are held in the adult language centre, but in July and August the school teaches the Teenage classes on a separate site in Biarritz. The July/August Lycee used is located in a pretty residential area of Biarritz. This charming villa based language school is just to the south east of the town centre, 8-10 minutes walking distance from the sea front, beaches and heart of the town. The school offers 10 bright and spacious classrooms, a computer room, a large courtyard garden shaded by trees with tables and chairs and there’s even room to play football and volleyball.

Accommodation

French hosts/ess based (private household) Offered on a shared room basis (either with a friend or the college will find another student for you to share with) with full-board (breakfast, lunch and evening meal) arranged by the hosts. Hosts offer either one twin room or in some cases, two or three, twin rooms (so there will be several students staying in the same household).

French hosts live in and around Biarritz and Anglet – in houses just a walk or a short bus ride from the language school (30 minutes max by bus). Bus pass: Allow €12.00 per week.  Please note most buses stop running in Biarritz around 8/9pm, (apart from 3 lines) so many students staying out later will have to walk or take a taxi back to their hosts.

Students are expected to keep their bedroom tidy and may be asked to clean the room. Hosts provide bed linen, but students should bring their own towel. The bedrooms have storage space, a workspace, a lamp and a window. Hosts offer you the chance to share daily French life with native speakers. They will collect you from Biarrtiz airport/station by arrangement, free of charge (if at reasonable hour) and take you back at the end of the course. They will also show their students to college on the first Monday of their course (or explain the route in detail). Sundays are spent with your hosts, so that they can enjoy your company and may even take you out for the day or go to the beach with you (though this isn’t compulsory).

Going out Permission

Teenagers aged 14/17 yrs old will need signed parental permission to be able to go out in the evenings. CESA will forward details upon enrolment.

Parents must indicate that either:

1/ no permission to go out is given after dinner or

2/ students are free to go out at a time set by their parents but in any case no later than 23.00 hrs in the week & up to 01.00am on /Friday or Saturday nights (no later curfews can be accepted). On Friday nights the students are out in the evening with group leader supervision and students over 15 yrs will make their own way back to their hosts, after the event. The curfew extension also applies to nights before a public holiday, when no French lessons will be held the following day.

NB: Parents cannot set alternative curfews as the school staff are unable to police them.

Location

Biarritz is situated on the Atlantic Coast, in the south west of France in the Basque Country. The area is a very attractive holiday destination. Biarritz, offers a wide range of daytime holiday activity possibilities and is also a surfers’ paradise and famed for its excellent beaches. Ideal for parental holidays, whilst the students are on a language course!

Supervision

During the organised Activity and Surfing programmes students are supervised by state qualified instructors for all sporting activities and by a member of college staff for other Activities.
