I thought the school in Nice was pretty good. I was only there for oen week of group lessons and 10 individual lessons, but I made a lot of progress which really helped me prepare for the French A Level oral exam. It was the third French language school I have visited and I thought the standard of teaching was high – and it helped that the initial assessment landed me in the right group which meant I got more out of the morning sessions than can be the case. The one to one afternoon sessions were especially good and two teachers in particular (Sandrine and Anouck) played a very big part in giving me the confidence to survive my oral exam last week. I think the school is well suited to those taking exams, but it is interesting that they have a special 2 week course for the 50+ age group which runs once a year when the Cannes festival is on and was starting the week after I left and has run successfully for ten years. I would consider doing it.
The school setting is not as attractive as (say) Aix-en-Provence, but it was still good for Nice city centre, beach and railway station and the course itself was also relatively good value for money.
The accommodation en famille was also fine (Benedicte Sacreste) , friendly, very convenient for the school and an attractive location too overlooking the Russian Cathedral.
There was a real problem on arrival which I fed back on – where it seemed the school gave out completely the wrong flight details to the host. But to their credit they admitted this and apologised sincerely at the end of the week and offered me a free trip activity to compensate.
So all in all very good.
