Course content

20 Spanish lessons per week (morning timetable)
All classes are given in Spanish.
In general the number of students per class is between 6 and 10 and each lesson lasts for 50 minutes.
Since the groups are small in number, the teacher is able to deal with the specific needs of each student on a more personal basis.
The classes are based around set tasks and planned depending on the students’ needs and styles of learning.
Students will use a textbook in class, together with supplementary material such as newspaper/press articles, adverts, audio-visual materials, etc.

Programme details

Polish up, practise and expand your general Spanish language in Valencia.

There are four Spanish lessons every day, they can be in the morning or following a zig zag schedule (some days in the morning with activities taking place in the afternoon and some days activities taking place in the morning and lessons in the afternoon).

During the course students become immersed in Spanish language and culture, learn how people use the language in real life, how they speak to each other in the street and how they socialise. Students develop skills that they can immediately practice outside the classroom.
Spanish lessons focus on communication skills, although grammar and vocabulary are also important.

* Students from both programmes might share some lessons.

Timetable

Sunday:
Arrival or free day & welcome event & BBQ dinner at school (18.30hrs)

First Monday:
08.30hrs level test, prior to classes

Week days/ Spanish lessons:
09.30 to 13.20hrs or 14.30 to 18.20hrs, depending on the schedule for the day

Weekdays/ Activities:
Varies depending on Spanish course timetable

Weekdays/ Evenings:
Free time in the city* or Evening activity

Saturday:
Full day excursion or departure

Curfew & Supervision

13/15yrs programme:
Students will have some free time to explore, but are generally kept occupied by staff, and can’t go out late at night alone.
From Sunday to Thursday students must return to the residence/host family for dinner (at 21:00hrs),
and on Friday and Saturday they can stay out until 23:00hrs

16/19yrs programme:
Students will have activities each week, but will have more free time to explore Valencia independently.
From Sunday to Thursday everyone must return to the residence/ host family at 00:00hrs
and on Friday and Saturday they can stay out until 01:00hrs

Activities

The guided activities and excursions will help students discover the Spanish culture, the friendly attitude of the locals and
the festive atmosphere of our city.
13/15 yrs: Every day there will be activities which include cultural visits, sports competitions, barbecues, dancing lessons, afternoons at the beach or shopping.
16/19hrs: A mix of activities + free time.
On Saturdays there are full-day excursions, while on Sundays students are free to spend the day with their hosts or to have free time to meet friends and join the school activity in the evening.
Experienced teachers and coordinators take care of the students and accompany them during all the cultural activities,
visits and excursions included in the programme.

Accommodation

Arrival: Sunday

Host families (June/August)

Students who choose host family are accommodated in double rooms, and they are placed together with another teenager, with a different mother tongue (where possible). The average journey to school for students is 25 minutes (public transport: bus or metro might be needed) and many families live closer than those in surrounding neighbourhoods.
For a supplementary fee the hosts will take the student to school each morning.

Student residences (June/August)
13-15 yrs Programme: Students who choose residence accommodation will live in a residence located in the old town, just 6 minutes walk to school. Students will be placed in double, triple or quadruple rooms, with shared bathrooms.
16-19 yrs Programme: Students will be placed in a modern residence, located 12 minutes walk from the school, in double rooms with a private bathroom.
Residence meals: Meals are taken in the residence canteen (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Please book early for residence accommodation (places will fill very quickly!).

Transfers

Arrival: Airport transfers on Sunday, from/to Valencia airport by school are offered at extra cost: EUR 45.00 (one way).
We recommend you arrive by 15.00 hrs, so you can join the other students for the BBQ evening at the school.
Departure: Transfers are arranged on Saturday after the programme finishes: EUR 45.00 (one way).
