Practical Information

– Where a language group of the correct level cannot be made up of just students on the Over 50 course, students are incorporated into the open classes of the Standard Course, offered to all language levels
– Accommodation is carefully chosen and is generally within 20-30 minutes of the school by foot or public transport
– All activities are guided and commentary is provided in Italian

First Day

Arrival at school for everyone (whatever their language level): 08.30 hrs
Language level tests are held first thing to determine your class placement.
In the afternoon the class lists and timetables will be made available on the notice-board.
Beginners will start their course on the first Monday, other students will begin on Tuesday.

Activities

First Week

  • Guided city tour and local aperitif in the famous ‘Campo’ (square) in Siena
  • Visit the magnificent Siena Duomo, a truly impressive and imposing cathedral
  • Relax and enjoy a half day excursion to the Rapolano Spa
  • Tour the fascinating fountains of Siena with an Italian guide
  • Savour  some Italian foods, with a ‘Pecorino’ cheese tasting session, accompanied by a selection of honey and marmalade

Second Week

  • Escape Siena and experience a weekend excursion through Southern Tuscany
  • Be tempted by Tuscan cuisine during a cookery lesson and tasting session
  • Participate in a guided tour of the ‘Palazzo Pubblico’ (Siena’s graceful gothic town hall)
  • Learn about Italian wine from an expert Sommelier at a wine tasting session
  • Finish your trip with a traditional Tuscan dinner with your group leader in a renowned local restaurant

Accommodation

You are welcome to choose from a range of accommodation choices:

  • Italian hosts, single room, half-board (shared rooms for couples)
  • Shared apartment are offered but are not recommended for mature students
  • Hotels or Studios for sole occupancy
  • or feel free to make your own arrangements

Please note it is not possible to offer a private bathroom with host accommodation in Siena.  If this is important to you, please discuss this with the CESA staff.

Travel & Transfer

Arrive: Sunday PM
Depart: Saturday AM

We recommend students fly to Florence’s Intl airport or Pisa Intl airport and then take the train to Siena. You can then take a taxi to your accommodation.
