Learn French in Le Gosier: Social Life
You can kayak in the National Park (which includes a chance to go snorkelling and visit a mangrove swamp), try horse back riding on the beach, go canyoning or wind-surfing with a club at Sainte Anne’s, either inside or outside the lagoon. There is some good surfing 10km along the coast (May to October). Beginners through to experienced divers can enjoy the reefs around Sainte Anne and there are various Sailing boat trips to Basse-Terre, Marie-Galante or Les Saintes on offer.
The college can offer a one day Creole cookery course on request, a Drum playing course and mountain bike tours (at extra cost) and student regularly arrange their own beach volley ball, billiards, dominoes, table tennis and of course that French favourite pétanque. Frequently students will decide to club together and hire a rental car so that they can explore the island at their leisure. Once every three weeks the college arranges a special cultural excursion for students, for example a sailing trip or a visit to a distillery.
The college recommends a local agency that offers a variety of tours to the main sights of Guadeloupe including a tour of the volcano “La Souffriere” and the waterfall of the National Park on Basse-Terre or a trip to Deshaies beach and a small waterfall that’s brilliant for jumping and swimming.
Night life is laid back so if you are into bright lights, late nights and clubbing you’ll be disappointed however if you want to join the college for a salsa BBQ, or sample the local restaurants and try out the relaxed bar lifestyle with new found friends, this is the place for you.
