Let’s get you talking German in Munich!

The German school system in Munich based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The six language levels quantified under the European Common Framework of language levels from A1 to C2 are offered at the Munich German school.

Course Structure

A written grading test taken before arrival via the Internet as well as a short oral test on the day of arrival, allows the language school staff to assign the students into classes according to the “Common European Framework of Reference for languages” (CEFR) levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. In general, courses for beginners (A0 level) start once a month, whilst participants with previous language knowledge can start a course on most Mondays of the year.The groups are not closed, so it is possible to change classes (and therefore levels) during the stay (if a place is available in the higher or lower class). Either, the teacher or the student may request a change of level from the School Director.

Please note: If a course class consists of less than three students, the school  reserves the right to reduce course length from 5 to 3 days per week.

Core group classes will cover the four core skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, with plenty of grammar and vocabulary work included in order to develop all the essential German language skills.

All German lessons are conducted in GERMAN.

Rate of Progress

The curriculum is structured on six theoretical language levels,
with a natural duration of between four/eight weeks at each level.

Actual time taken to reach the following language level depends on student ability, application and dedication to the task. We are assuming students complete all classes of a Standard Course. The process can be made more rapid by booking private classes in addition or as a stand alone course, or the Mini or Intensive course options.

There are classes in grammar, oral and written exercises, practice with video and audio material and conversation on subjects of general, social and cultural interest. The methodology is the result of years of experience in the intensive teaching of German. Special importance is given to the communicative aspect of the language and its use in everyday life. For this reason, the college encourages students to speak German in class, and whenever possible out of class as well.

A student of average linguistic ability should allow four weeks to complete the Beginner/Elementary level, covering basic grammatical structured knowledge to be able to communicate in the practical situations of daily life plus an introduction to German customs.

Approximately eight weeks will be required to complete the Intermediate level with its emphasis on grammar with reference to the past tenses and development of conversation skills (and at Intermediate 2 level, the subjunctive).

An additional 10 weeks covers the Advanced level (deepening grammatical skills, providing fluency in conversation and a deeper knowledge of German culture, also written expression and the creation of texts.

Finally, a further 10 weeks to complete the Higher level with a specialised level of grammar and the study of German literature, art, sociology and the history of Germany. In reality students choose to attend a short course or a longer “Languages for Life” course according to their linguistic goals, personal wishes and time constraints.

German Course Goals

The Standard Course in Munich trains you to use the German language across the core skills of speaking, listening, writing and reading according to your current language level. In these short term courses we recommend students study for a minimum of two weeks study in which you can put your newly acquired German knowledge into practice, or use your previous language knowledge more skillfully (one week courses offered if required). Prospective students wishing to study more in depth or to take a professional qualification in German can attend a longer term course (Languages for Life) and systematically increase their German knowledge to achieve a higher standard language level.

The Intensive Course builds on the foundation of the Standard Course, with an additional 5 group classes per week, focusing on communication skills.

The Mini Group Course consists of 20 group lessons but with NO MORE THAN 5 students per class level. It is ideal for those who prefer a small group environment and who wish to see maximum impact from their allocated time. Core skills and communication ability will be the main focus of the programme.

In the Combined Courses the advantages of group lessons are enhanced with one-to-one lessons: you make use of the diversity of communication in a group and focus on your own needs in one-to-one lessons.
Each week 5 or 10 private lessons can be booked.

In the Private Tuition programmes, the German school address your learning needs and personal targets based on a pre-course needs analysis. You are welcome to bring your own material into class, whether you require an academic or professional focus.

telc exam preparation

Students are offered the telc exams at B1 and B2 levels once a month.
The exam is held once a month, throughout the year (twice in August).
Students need to have completed the B1+ level at the school to sit the B1 telc exam and to have completed the B2 level at the school to sit the B2 telc exam.

Zertifikat Deutsch exam preparation

Students can prepare for the ZD, ZMP, ZOP according to their language level.
The exams are held once a month throughout the year (except January, July or August).

Additional Workshop Options

German Pronunciation:
You can have a special focus on German pronunciation which is often important for students in higher levels who still retain their native accent in German or for job purposes, where exact pronunciation is essential.

Dance Lessons: (minimum 3 months duration)
These lessons are in cooperation with a professional dance centre in Munich. You can choose between modern/contemporary dance, jazz dance and classical ballet.
3 lessons per week (60 mins duration)

Art Lessons: (minimum 3 months)
These lessons are held at a private Atelier. The art teachers have all graduated from art academies and have received international prizes and scholarships. You can choose from the basic techniques of sculpture, painting or drawing and can learn to work with different media and tools.
2.5 lessons per week (60 minutes duration)

Yoga Classes:
The Yoga Centre in Munich is very centrally located and offers classes in a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. All classes are taught by professional instructors. The Yoga practice includes physical exercises, breathing, relaxation and meditation.
Guest membership is offered on a monthly basis.

Join a Gym:
The language school recommends a local Gym, where students can train from early in the morning to late at night.

Support Service for Students who wish to study at a German University:
We assist all students who would like to study at a German university. We find out for you if and under which conditions you will be able to study in Germany and what kind of paperwork needs to be done.
A booking fee is applied.

Visa Support:
CESA and the school staff will support you in obtaining your visa to enter Germany, once you are formally enrolled. CESA will send you full details on the correct procedure to follow. You will be sent an invitation letter which you will need for your visa application. If there are any issues or problems, the school staff will contact the German embassy in your country and the visa officers here in Germany, on your behalf. However, no one can guarantee that every applicant will be successful in obtaining a visa. This service does not include the visa issue fee which has to be paid directly to the embassy.

Students come from all over the world, predominantly Europe, but also from as far afield as Russia and the USA. Fundamentally, if you want to learn German – you’re welcome. Age wise, students are accepted from 16 yrs of age, generally students are in their late teens, 20’s, 30’s or older and the school is not ageist – everyone is welcome.

There are many students that stay for one or two weeks and some who stay for 12 to 24 weeks+.
The longer you stay the better your German language skills will be!
