Japanese hosts
- Offered to 14 yrs + age group
- Duration: 2 weeks+
- Single room, half-board accommodation with Japanese hosts
- Allow 30/60 minutes commute each morning
Hosts are chosen based on their suitability to accept guests and proximity to the Japanese language school (in Japanese terms this means 30/60 minutes commute from the college). Please don’t book host family accommodation if you can’t bear the idea of commuting – it’s just a fact of everyday life. You’ll get your own private bedroom (which may be furnished in a Japanese or Western style). Your hosts can give you an insight into Japanese life & culture that will really enhance the experience, but you must balance this against the compromises this form of accommodation entails (guest rules, family curfew etc). If you’re not sure this is right for you – please discuss with CESA staff.
Residence accommodation
- Offered to 18 yrs + age group
- Duration: 4 wks+
- Single room in a residence of students (either language or Japanese students as a rule), self-catering
- Allow 30/40 minutes commute each morning
There are various residency options, giving you a chance to live with other students, around 30/40 minutes travel time to the Japanese School. Good sociable community feel – easy to make friends.
Private Apartment
- Offered to 18 yrs + age group
- Duration: 4 wks+
- Sole occupancy small studios, self-catering
- Allow 20/40 minutes’ walk each morning
Great option for proximity (can be as close as 10 minutes to the college). However, is the most expensive accommodation option. Apartments can be rented by the week and include a bed, living room area, kitchen area and bathroom. There are rarely laundry facilities in the apartments (but there will be facilities in the building itself). High speed internet access is included in the cost of the accommodation. Most are within walking distance of the college in the main business/entertainment district of the city.
Hotels
There are range of local Hotels that the Japanese School recommend to students, depending on room requirement and budget.
Travel
Fukuoka is well served by its own international airport, just 10 minutes by underground from the school and the city centre.
You can connect from Hong Kong, Seoul or Singapore for a direct flight to Fukuoka, or fly to Tokyo’s Narita airport, Osaka’s Kansai airport or Nagoya’s Komaki airport and take a domestic flight direct to Fukuoka.
The Shinkansen (bullet train) station (Hakata) is just 5 minutes from the school by underground.
Most students fly to Fukuoka (FUK), or to Nagoya/ Kansai, or Tokyo/Narita & take an internal flight to Fukuoka Intl airport (travel time from Narita to Fukuoka / 3+ hrs) or take the Shinkansen to Fukuoka (travel time from Tokyo to Fukuoka / 5+ hrs+).
Please note: Students staying with hosts must fly in before 7.00pm or will need to book a Hotel for their first night.
Transfer Service:
Available on request from 8.00am to 8.00pm, (a fee is charged) for an arrival service/per person from Fukuoka airport. Please note Fukuoka Airport is right in the centre of the city so many students take a taxi on arrival.
