Learn French in Cannes: Location

Cannes is 20 miles west of Nice, on the Mediterranean coast. It is one of the jewels of the French Riviera with miles of golden beaches along the “Golfe de la Napoule” and “La Croisette” which attracts tourists throughout the year, but particularly in the summer months.

The pleasant climate, the chic image, its coastal location and ease of access to the whole of the Cote d’Azur makes it a wonderful language course destination, with particular appeal to our younger students. Home to some 70,000 people, it is at its busiest in May (due to the Film Festival) and the summer season.

Cannes exudes a zest for life that is entirely modern. There is plenty of glitz; haute-couture clothing stores, 5* Hotels, fast cars and enormous yachts. There is also a calmer side to Cannes, small restaurants set back from the “Quai St Pierre” where you can eat excellent and cheap seafood, pizza or Tex-mex (rather than Michelin 5-star).

There are wonderful markets such as the daily indoor market at Forville for fresh local produce and cut flowers, and plenty of cafes at which to participate in that most enjoyable of activities; sitting in the sun with a coffee whilst watching the world go by! Cannes is a smart town, which offers easy access to the rest of France, Monte Carlo and Northern Italy.

Language students have greatly enjoyed this delightful town for many years. It has become a firm favourite with the younger CESA students for both short and long term programmes.
