Learn German in Heidelberg: Accommodation

Students can choose to live in residences (sharing with other students or in sole occupancy studios), with host families or in a nearby Hotel. Please ask for the CESA Heidelberg Accommodation fact sheet for full details.

Student Residences

There are five categories of residence accommodation.

Category 1: Residence: shared kitchen, WC and shower on corridor with WiFi.  2 to 6 km from the school, within easy reach by bus/tram

Category 2: Residence: shared kitchen, WC and shower on corridor, WiFi. 2 to 6 km from the school, within easy reach by bus/tram

Category 3: Residence: shared kitchen, en-suite WC and shower, WiFi. 2 to 6 km from the school, within easy reach by bus/tram

Category 1 to 3 vary in terms of furnishings/facilities and attractiveness of area.

Category 4: Located in the Old Town area, near the school. Shower and/or WC on corridor. Shared kitchen

Category 5: Bergheim and Old Town locations. Small apartments with 1 or 2 rooms. En suite shower, WC and kitchenette. Including the Student Campus (1.7km from school) which is very popular and will become fully booked.

Most student residences are situated in the Rohrbach, south and Old Town districts. In total the language school can offer over 500 rooms in the Student Residences, all year round. Do bear in mind that in the summer, these rooms often become fully booked – so please book early. The German school reserves the right to arrange accommodation in another residence within the same category (max. distance to school: 30 minutes using public transport).

You can request a specific option, but will need to pay a supplementary fee to reserve a specific residence or female only residence (category 2 and 4).

Students can stay with local German hosts in Heidelberg on a single room, half-board (breakfast and evening meal) or breakfast only basis. Shared rooms are also offered, but only for two students travelling together. Host accommodation can be offered from one week+ and for as long as your course booking. The hosts in Heidelberg provide you with a chance to sample German daily life, first-hand and to put your German language skills into practise out of class, in an informal setting.

As the college is located just off Bismarckplatz (the central hub for Heidelberg’s public transport) it is easy to commute by bus or tram to the college. Students can select their host accommodation from two categories, but CESA quotes Option A hosts on the Course Quote Finder.

We recommend students fly to Frankfurt airport FRA (80 km to Heidelberg) and take the college arranged transfer – travel time generally one hour+ to Heidelberg. If you prefer to make your own way you can take a taxi, the train (changing at Mannheim) or the shuttle bus to Heidelberg (and then take a taxi to your accommodation).

Alternatively you can fly to Frankfurt-Hahn airport HHN (160 km from Heidelberg) and take a coach to Heidelberg or the college arranged transfer – travel time generally two hours+.

Or fly to Stuttgart airport STA (130km to Heidelberg) and take the shuttle train to the city centre and then a connecting train to Heidelberg or the college arranged transfer – travel time generally one hour 30 mins+.

You are welcome to book a college transfer service at additional cost, from any of the above airports. See the CESA Course Quote Finder for price details or contact the CESA office.

College arranged transfers are also possible from Mannheim train station and Heidelberg train station, on request.
