Learn German in Lindau: Social Life
All students are encouraged to take full advantage of their stay in Lindau by participating in the guided excursions and activities offered by the college. For a small town, Lindau has a fabulous variety of leisure activities to offer.
With restaurants, pubs, discos, a theatre, galleries, museums and cinemas to explore by night as well as the beautiful squares and hidden lanes to discover by day. The neighbouring towns of Bregenz and Friedrichshafen are within easy reach, whilst the Bavarian capital, Munich is a much favoured weekend destination and the nearby Alps are a paradise for walkers and climbers, as well as snow enthusiasts. Your teachers will act as guides to attractions such as Meersburg, Mainau Island, Constance, King Ludwig’s castles .. etc. Visits are offered at additional cost.
The sporting opportunities locally are tremendous, whether your love is for cycling, swimming, sailing or wind-surfing in the summer or all forms of winter sports during the colder months. Lindau even has it’s own ice-rink.
The college arranges a minimum of two activities per week. Each weekend (in winter, every second weekend outside the summer) they take you out for a whole-day excursion. In addition, at least once a month, the college offers a guided excursion to another German or nearby city.
Students are asked to pay entrance fees and public transport tickets etc but they do not have to pay extra for the presence of the guide.
For those who want to explore Lindau by night, we recommend the many bars, pubs and clubs such as the Marmorsaal, Inisde, Il Lago etc.
A sample of a Week’s cultural programme:
Monday: Monday welcome – Get together in a traditional pub, for all continuing and recently arrived students; a great way to break the ice and get to know your fellow students.
Tuesday: College cinema. See a big screen movie, in German.
Wednesday: An afternoon or evening excursion arranged by the college.
Thursday: Sports in the nearby Sports Hall, volleyball, basket ball or hockey.
Friday: Attend a cultural event locally, for example a jazz, rock or classical music concert.
Saturday: An excursion e.g. to Schaffhausen in Switzerland and the Rhine falls.
Sunday: Free time.
