Learn Spanish in Nerja: Social Life
Students can choose to take part in extra-curricular activities Monday to Saturday as part of the social programme organised by the school: Spanish culture conferences, school fiestas, practical cooking classes, tourist visits, Spanish film sessions, beach volleyball matches, visits to Nerja’s impressive pre-historic caves.… The extra-curricular activities are a part of the overall, effective Spanish-learning strategy of the school. Through these extra-curricular activities, students practise Spanish in a real context and in a relaxed setting.
School arranged events include:
- Every Monday there is a welcome gathering where a presentation of activities is given and where new students can meet one another and enjoy typical Spanish hospitality
- An outing to the prehistoric caves of Nerja and the picturesque towns in the vicinity, such as Frigiliana and Almuñécar
- Day-trips to Granada, Seville, Malaga and Cordoba
- Three-day trip to Morocco
- Sports activities: beach volleyball, horseback riding, kayak, tennis courses and diving course
- Social activities: school parties, “tapas tour”, Spanish films and other interesting events
- Seminars on Spanish culture and civilisation
- Salsa and flamenco
- Cookery classes and wine tasting
The School requires a minimum number of students for these events to run, otherwise they may have to cancel or change an activity
Other local must-see places include the Church of El Salvador, the Las Angustias chapel, the Church of Our Lady of the Wonders (Maro) and the Aqueduct of Aguila. If you love the outdoors, you’ll enjoy a hike along the numerous marked trails found throughout the natural landscape of the Maro-Cerro Cliffs and the Almijara mountains.
The historic centre of Nerja is fun to explore on foot, with typical white Andalusian homes all leading to the Balcon de Europa, which is a focal point for the town, where everyone promenades in the evening and come together to celebrate religious fiestas and of course offers an unbeatable view of the Mediterranean Sea.
