French for Teenagers: Biarritz 13 to 17 yrs
CESA’s French for Teenagers course in Biarritz is a 1–4 week summer programme for students aged 13–17 at A2–B2 level. It includes 20 lessons a week in classes of up to 14, four afternoons of surfing, full-board homestay and airport transfers. Prices in summer 2027 start from €1,160 for one week.

French Course Notes
Prior to arrival students will be asked to complete a level test.
On the first Monday of a course, students have an Induction Talk.
French classes will always start on Monday at 10.10 hrs through to 12.30 hrs, Tuesday to Friday classes are held 09.00 hrs to 12.30 hrs (with a 20-minute break)
So, there are 15 hours (or 20 lessons x 45 minutes) in total per week (no homework is set).
The programme covers all the different elements of the French language. Students are taught a wide range of language learning tools, covering speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills according to their current French language level.
The main focus of the course is always oral communication, and the teachers are all university educated, native speakers. Students are always encouraged to participate actively in class and to put their new-found French skills into practice.
Language School
The school operates each summer in a private Lycee at 14 rue des Frères, Biarritz, just a 15 minutes walk from Cote de Basques beach and around 20 minutes walk from La Grande Plage. Lycee facilities include classrooms, a dining hall (where students can eat the picnic lunches provided by their hosts), outdoor break area and a library. There is a bus stop just a couple of minutes walk from the school, ensuring easy access when commuting in from host accommodation.
French Teaching Staff
The staff are professional, native speaking teachers who can draw on years of teaching experience. The school is a member of the quality-control group IALC (the International Association of Language Centres) and holds the Label Qualité FLE accreditation so you are assured of the quality of tuition provided.

What will my child learn on this French programme?
They will be taught level appropriate written and oral skills in group classes by native speaking French teachers.
What level of French do they need?
French is taught at A2 (elementary level) to B2 (high intermediate level) in different classes.
Can my child do this course if they’ve never surfed?
Yes. They will be given a safety briefing and then taught the basics under the supervision of qualified surf instructors (with no more than 8 students per group). The surf boards used are perfect for beginners who require maximum buoyancy.
Important: They must be able to prove they are competent swimmers and there is a swim test on the first day of school.
How do students get to school?
They will travel by bus to school from their hosts. They will quickly become familiar with the route. Their hostess will ensure they know the route and CESA will advise you of the details prior to arrival.
Are students supervised in the evenings?
With your permission your child can go out in the evening, up to the set curfew. There is no supervision provided in the evening, but all students can contact their hosts and are given an emergency contact number, in case they have an issue.
What’s included in the price?
The course price includes the French tuition, surfing, host accommodation and meals and the transfer from Biarritz airport to host accommodation and return service.

Can parents contact the host family?
Parents will be provided with host contact details, including a phone number and email address before the course starts, so you can always reach out to the hostess, as well as the school staff or CESA UK staff throughout the programme.
What is the weather like in Biarritz in summer?
French summers are hot. Biarritz is on the Atlantic so benefits from the sea breezes but you should still expect hot weather. We anticipate temperatures to average 22 oC in June, 25 oC in July and 26 oC in August (though they may reach in to the early 30s in a heatwave).

Accommodation
You will live with French hosts (a couple) or hostess (a single lady) and with other language students. Your hosts will provide a shared room (either sharing with a friend or friends you came out to Biarritz with or you will be placed with another student or students of the same gender allocated by the school staff). Hosts offer either one twin room or in some cases, two or three, twin rooms (so there will be several students staying in the same household).
You hosts will provide you with full-board (breakfast, lunch and evening meal). If you have dietary, medical or allergy requirements please let CESA staff know when you book.
Bed linen and a light laundry service are provided by your hosts.
The French hosts live in and around Biarritz, Bayonne and Anglet – in houses that may be a walk or a bus ride from the school (allow 30 minutes max by bus).
Bus pass: Allow €25/30.00 per week. Please note most buses stop running in Biarritz around 8/9pm, (apart from 3 lines) so many students staying out later will have to walk or take a taxi back to their hosts.

Students are expected to keep their bedroom tidy and may be asked to clean the room. Hosts provide bed linen, but students should bring their own towel. The bedrooms have storage space, a workspace, a lamp and a window. Hosts offer you the chance to share daily French life with native speakers.
Your hosts/hostess will collect you from Biarritz airport/station (at a reasonable hour) and take you back at the end of the course. They will also help you get to school on the first Monday of the course (or explain the route in detail if they can’t accompany you). Sundays can be spent with your hosts, although from past experience many students prefer to meet up with the other students and enjoy a day at the beach.
Going out Permission
Teenagers need signed parental permission to be able to go out in the evenings. CESA will forward details to you upon enrolment.
Students are free to go out but no later than 23.00 hrs in the week & up to 01.00am on /Friday or Saturday nights. The weekend curfew extension also applies to nights before a public holiday, when no French lessons will be held the following day.
NB: Parents cannot set alternative curfews as the school staff are unable to police them.
Location
Biarritz is situated on the Atlantic Coast, in the southwest of France in the Basque Country. The area is an incredibly attractive holiday destination. Biarritz offers a wide range of daytime holiday activity possibilities, is a surfers’ paradise and famed for its excellent beaches. Ideal for parental holidays, whilst the students are on a language course!
Supervision
During the French and Surfing programme students are supervised by state qualified instructors for all sporting activities and by a member of college staff for other activities.
Students will have to make their own way to school and back to their hosts each day and will have no supervision when out in the evenings, although there will be staff available by phone outside of school hours.
Travel
Arrive: Sunday PM / Depart: Saturday AM
Travel to Biarritz by plane (or train) and then take the host arranged two-way transfer to your accommodation.
Parents are welcome to drop students off, in person, but please let us know you wish to do this in advance.
Please note that students aged 13 to 15 yrs will need their parents (or another adult) to escort them on flights to Biarritz, unless travelling with a student aged 16 yrs+.
