Learn French in Nice: Accommodation

The French language school in Nice offers a range of accommodation options for students to consider, depending on budget and personal inclination.  Full details are given in the CESA Nice accommodation factsheet (available by email on request), and prices are shown online on the CESA Course Finder or in the Nice accommodation factsheet. Nice is a large, popular city and language students must allow for a commute of approx. 15 to 40 mins to college each morning.

Please note: The summer months are particularly busy, demand is high, so early bookings are strongly recommended.

French hosts/hostess

  • Open to 16 yrs + age group
  • Single rooms
  • Shared rooms (arranged for younger students, not recommended for older students, unless booked with friends)
  • Half-board (breakfast & evening meal)

Can be booked on a single or shared room* basis with half-board#

Hosts offering half-board live in apartments in and around the city and may have more than one student staying with them at a time. They are normally French couples, divorcees or widows who are happy to host foreign students and can provide a welcoming environment and the opportunity for social conversation each day. The French hosts will collect you from the airport/station on arrival, free of charge (if at reasonable hour and CESA has been advised of your travel details with reasonable notice), but students make their own way back to Nice airport, at the end of the course or can book a taxi transfer (paid for in advance).
Please note: During the summer the younger students may be taught on a second college site, near the main school.

* shared rooms available if staying with a friend or for younger students, the French school in Nice will be happy to try and pair you up with another student of a similar age in the late Spring/summer months

# half-board basis = breakfast and evening meal with local hosts

Our host families are committed to the following:
– To welcome and lodge you in the best conditions.
– To integrate you as much as possible in the family’s life.
– To assist you in the language learning process.
– To offer you a French or continental breakfast every morning.
– To offer you a complete and varied dinner (usually dinner is taken between 19.00 and 20.30)
– To supply you with bed sheets and towels and to change them every week.
– To offer you a clean and comfortable room with a window, and furnished with a work table and a wardrobe.
– To give you the keys of the flat or house.

Please note:
– Host families are not obliged to offer lunch on Saturday or Sunday unless there is a special contract.
French breakfast usually includes coffee, tea or chocolate, bread or rusk with butter and jam, cornflakes… Don’t hesitate to talk with your family about what you like upon arrival. Please inform your host family in advance if you won’t take a meal because you are going out or for any other reason. There is no refund for meals which are not taken.
– You don’t have access to the family’s phone unless it is for incoming calls or emergencies, but you can buy a “prepaid phone card” with a pin code which can be used with any telephone.
– Members of the host family are not your “servants”. You have to make your bed, to tidy your room and to turn off the light when leaving. For your laundry, there are launderettes in each area of the town and your family will give you the necessary equipment for ironing.
– Your host family shouldn’t restrict you on food (during breakfast and dinner), showers or baths, but of course you mustn’t abuse your position either, as you are not the only one living in the home…

– You are free to go out and to come home at any time. For students under the age of 18, the host family is required to ensure the student respects the curfew given by the parents. Strict French legislation for underage students obliges us to exclude any student who doesn’t respect the ccurfew, both from the course and the host family. No refund is possible in this situation.
– Be silent after 22.00 in order not to wake up your host family and to respect the neighbourhood.
– You are not allowed to bring other persons or even friends to the home of your family unless they have agreed in.
– When leaving the house, never keep the keys and the address of your host family in the same place. In case of loss or theft of the keys you will have to pay for a new lock.
– You are responsible for any damage caused by you in the flat or house. Repairs have to be paid by yourself or by your insurance company.
– If you want to extend your stay, please discuss this with the school or CESA staff in the first instance.

Hosts/Self catering

  • Open to 18 yrs + age group
  • Single rooms
  • Shared rooms (arranged for younger students, not recommended for older students, unless booked with friends)
  • Self-catering

Students share accommodation with local French hosts, on a self-catering basis. This option is popular with the more independently minded students, who still want to have French contact outside of classes at the French school in Nice but would like to have kitchen access to cook their own food.
Students must be 18 yrs or older to book this accommodation option.

Our hosts are committed to the following:
– To welcome you in the best conditions.
– To assist you in the language learning process if their time and availability allow to do so.

– You don’t have access to the host’s phone unless it is for incoming calls or urgencies. But you can buy a « prepaid phone card » with a pin code which can be used with any telephone.
– The basics of this accommodation type are flexibility, respect, and responsibility. Therefore it is only natural to help cleaning the shared facilities like kitchen, bathroom, and toilets. Also the cleaning of your room is your responsibility, and you are asked to leave it in the very same state as it was at your arrival. For your laundry, there are launderettes in each area of the town and your host will give you the necessary for ironing.
– Your host doesn’t have to restrict you on showers or baths (of course you won’t abuse either as you are not the only one living at this place…)
