Learn French in Nice: Accommodation

The French language school in Nice offers a range of accommodation options for students to consider, depending on budget and personal inclination.  Full details are given in the CESA Nice accommodation factsheet (available on request), and prices are shown online on the CESA Course Finder or in the Nice accommodation factsheet.

Nice is a large, popular city and language students must allow for a commute of approx. 15 to 40 mins to college each morning. Students generally have to take a tram or bus journey to school, only a few hosts are located a short walk from the French language school in Nice.

Please note: The summer months are really busy, from June through to September student demand for host accommodation is high, so early bookings are essential.

French hosts/hostess

  • Open to 16 yrs + age group
  • Single rooms
  • Shared rooms (arranged for younger students, not recommended for older students, unless booked with friends)
  • Half-board (breakfast & evening meal)

Can be booked on a single or shared room* basis with half-board#

Hosts offering half-board live in apartments in and around the city and may have more than one student staying with them at a time. They are normally French couples, divorcees or widows who are happy to host foreign students and can provide a welcoming environment and the opportunity for social conversation each day. The French hosts will collect you from the airport/station on arrival, free of charge (if at reasonable hour and CESA has been advised of your travel details with reasonable notice), but students make their own way back to Nice airport, at the end of the course.

* shared rooms available if staying with a friend or for younger students. The French school in Nice will be happy to try and pair you up with another student of a similar age in the late Spring/Summer months

# half-board basis = breakfast and evening meal with local hosts

Our hosts/hostess are committed:
– To welcome and lodge you in the best conditions
– To integrate you as much as possible in the hosts/hostess’s life
– To assist you in the language learning process
– To offer you a French or continental breakfast every morning
– To offer you a complete and varied dinner (usually dinner is taken between 19.00 and 20.30 hrs)
– To supply you with bed sheets and towels and to change them every week
– To offer you a clean and comfortable room with a window, and furnished with a work table and a wardrobe
– To give you your own front door keys during your stay

Please note:
– Hosts/hostesses do not offer lunches on Saturday or Sunday.
French breakfast usually includes coffee, tea or chocolate, bread or rusk with butter and jam, cornflakes… Don’t hesitate to talk with your hostess about what you like upon arrival. Please inform your hostess in advance if you won’t take a meal because you are going out or for any other reason. There is no refund for meals which are not taken.
– You don’t have access to the hostess’s phone unless it is for incoming calls or emergencies.
– Members of the hostess’s household are not your “servants”. You have to make your bed, to tidy your room and to turn off the light when leaving. For your laundry, there are launderettes in each area of the town and your family will provide you with an iron and ironing board.
– Your host family shouldn’t restrict you on food (during breakfast and dinner), and you will have access to one shower or bath a day, but please don’t abuse your position either, as you are not the only one living in the home…

– You are free to go out and to come home at any time.
For students under the age of 18, the host family is required to ensure the student respect the curfew rules. Strict French legislation for underage students obliges us to exclude any student who doesn’t respect the curfew, both from the course and the host accommodation. No refund is possible in this situation.
– Be silent after 22.00 hrs in order not to wake up the household and also to respect others living in the neighbourhood.
– You are not allowed to bring other people (even friends) to the home of your hosts/hostess unless they have agreed in advance.
– When leaving the house, don’t keep the keys and the address of your hosts/hostess in the same place. In case of loss or theft of the keys you will be responsible for paying for a new lock.
– You are responsible for any damage caused by yourself in the household. Repairs have to be paid by yourself or by your insurance company.
– If you want to extend your stay, please discuss this with the school or CESA staff in the first instance.

  • Single rooms
  • Shared rooms (arranged for younger students, not recommended for older students, unless booked with friends)
  • Self-catering

Students share accommodation with local French hosts, on a self-catering basis. This option is popular with the more independently minded students, who still want to have French contact outside of classes at the French school in Nice but would like to have kitchen access to cook their own food.
Students must be 18 yrs or older to book this accommodation option.

– To welcome you in the best conditions.
– To assist you in the language learning process if their time and availability allow to do so.

Laundry can be done at one of the local launderettes in each area of the town and your host will provide access to an iron and ironing board on request.
– Your host/hostess will provide access for one shower or bath a day. Please remember that you are not the only one requiring bathroom access.

– You are free to go out and to come home at any time.

– If you want to extend your stay, please discuss this with the school/CESA staff.
