Learn Italian in Viareggio: Location

Viareggio is one of the most famous and traditional beach resorts in Tuscany, and is well known for its liberty period architecture. The name Viareggio comes from the word “Via Regia” which means the King’s Road.

Viareggio has wide, endless golden sandy beaches, excellent cuisine and exciting nightlife with its well-known “Versillian” discos, at their best during the lively summer months. Beach lovers will enjoy the long seafront beaches and green gardens with palms, oleanders and tamarisks. The more active can enjoy sailing and mountain biking, but many prefer the quieter pursuits of sun bathing and swimming! The climate is very warm in the summer, with temperatures reaching 30 o C, and mild in the winter, dropping to 10 o C. Which gives the college a year round appeal, though it is the summer months that draw the majority of students. Viareggio is within easy reach of Pisa (less than 15 km away), Florence, Siena and Lucca, so if you want to soak up some culture during your time in Italy, there is always plenty to see.
